Nail in tire - Need advice
I know Barry just went through a similar situation, but I just noticed that I have a nail in one of my (spare set of) tires. I took a picture and would like to get some advice...
The tire has a little less than 10k miles and is not currently on the car. I don't track the car (and wouldn't on this tire) and I don't drive in the rain unless I get caught out in a unexpected storm.
I bought a second set of tires / rims from another owner and have had the rears from that set on the car since mid-August (when I took a road-trip in the car). I was hoping to put the old tires (one with the nail I just noticed) back on the car for around town driving, possibly to get another 3-5k out of them. The tire with the nail does not appear to have any air leaking out.
What do you all think? Is the nail too close to the sidewall? Should I even bother patching it? I know the tires have a lot of miles on them by S-02 standards, but like I said - no track, no rain.
Thanks,
Dave

I too just checked my tires yesterday and found a similar but smaller nail in my back tire. I do not detect any air leak but will closely monitor it. My tire is almost worn off so I will not fix it.
If you feel uncomfortable it, fix it. It will be a easy fix.

You can plug and patch the tire no problem. Discount Tire stores will normally do it no charge. The tires that are repaired do not keep the same speed rating so I would not take the car to the track on a repaired tire. They will work fine for regular driving.
If I can help let me know.
Thank you
