Default New Shoes!

First off, I know they are all season tires and ideally shouldn't be used on our high performance sports car but these are wonderful!

I recently bought a clean set of AP2V1's and after reading great reviews for the Continental ExtremeContact DWS, I ordered a set of 215 front and 255 rear from TireRack.

My previous set of tires were Bridgestone RE760 Sports and they were great in the summer, but well short of confidence inspiring in a December rain for Maryland. I know that summer performance tires do not work well in cold weather. Please do not flame. I learned first-hand just how easily these hydroplane in a 45 degree rain with 4/32" of tread remaining. NOT recommended.

The Bridgestones lasted about 12,000 miles, which is fairly respectable for our car, but I would still like a bit longer wear life.

Basically I went for the all-season Conti's in hopes of longer wear and better cold+wet weather performance. Plus, based on the test results from TireRack, these perform surprisingly close to the average summer tire.

I am not yet through the break in period but these tires performed admirably on a two hour drive through a freezing rain. They are also more quiet than the Bridgestones and provide a softer ride.

I know I cannot expect the Conti's to perform as well as summer tires in the summer AND winter tires in the winter, but I am optimistic these will suffice as a respectable year-round daily-driver tire.

I am looking forward to really pushing these once the weather warms up!

The DWS will not give you the traction of a winter tire but they are the best we tested in an all season. You will like those tires.

I would not go that far. I tracked a BMW with the RE760 and they were fine. I did not have any issues.

I liked the RE760's but I was not really wowed by them. For such a high tread wear rating I expected to get more than 12,000 out of the rears, I don't drive my car that hard. For my personal driving characteristics, I think the Conti's will be a nice improvement all around.

I have them on a Mercedes C240. They have a very soft side wall.

I put these on my evo x for the winter. Not bad, but the cars reflexes suffered a bit. Kinda like My car had 3 beers and a shot when cornering, but much better going over light snow/ice.

Unless your car visits the snow, I would stay away from the DWS and stick with the DW's...

Hey Navylights,

I am in the exact same situation as you as I recently purchased a set of ap2v1 rims and am looking to pick up an all season tire that will perform decently in summer and mildly cold weather while also getting decent tread life.

Just wondering if you considered the Yokohama Avid Envigors?? They are a relatively new tire, but they seem to be getting pretty favorable reviews and they have an even higher tread wear rating (although I know it is subjective across manufacturers) than the continentals.

I am thinking of picking up a set of the Yokohama's in the stock sizes, 215/45/17 front and 245/40/17 rear.

Jim, what is your opinion on the Avid Envigor's?

I do not drive the car very hard, and it is my daily driver so I would like some tires that are going to last a little longer. I have dedicated winter tires for the winter season, so these tires will be used in spring/summer/fall so they will see some cooler temperatures but definitely no snow.

The strength of the DWS is that it will get you there through rain, snow and ice. The DW is weak in the dry and wet compared to the super tires and dangerous in the snow and ice. I can powerslide the RS3 at 40F because it loses traction, no snow or ice involved.
