Default new tire decision - help

I need to get new tires. I can't afford RIMs, so I am stuck with getting 16inchers.

What do you guys think of the yokohomas yk420's? Any suggestions on tires would be great.

There's been a ton of discussion on this. Assuming you're replacing your OEM tires, then OEM tires are probably the best replacement. A lot of people have had luck with the yoko avs100 (or something like that). Kumho 712's are a reasonably popular replacement for budget minded people.

Don't buy the 420's. They're not particularly up to the job (I had a set that came on a used S I purchased).

AVS 100's are nothing but rim protecters. Little grip ,not to mention they squeal like a drunken prom date being serviced by WFO Racer .Only plus to them is they are cheap, there is a reason they are cheaper than the better tires . Stick with the OEM at the very least, they aren't bad other than lasting around 6 months. Check out the tire forum.

Stay with the OEM S02s, you'll wish you did. Every one I know with a S that changed tires wishes that they stayed with the Bridgestones. Your cars handling will change for the worse if you drive it hard.

OEM tire 225/50/16 Bridgestone S02 w92 ( 8.5 inch footprint )
You need to go up 2 sizes with any other tire 245/45/16 ( 8.5 inch footprint )

How many miles do you have on them? You may not need fronts just swap directions with them (that's what I did). With price being an issue you could get four Kumho Ecsta MX for the price of the two rear S-02's if you need them and I have heard they are a pretty grippy tire for the price.

Sumitomo HTR Z are good tires as well, at about $400 a set. Do not confuse these with the HTR ZIIs, though!!

I ordered Yokohama ES100 245/45/16 rear and 205/55/16 in front. They are charging me about $475.00 total for the tires including balancing and installation.
I cant afford S02's right now. I have 31K on the O. I have gone through the second set of rears and my first set of fronts lasted this long. I bought the car used with 21K on the O. The second set of rears went on the S at about 17K. I have the papers from the original owner.

I heard the ES100 last a little longer and will provide better grip in the rain. So that is what I did. I'm going to start saving for RIMS. i will probably get 16" or 17". I will not be able to afford RIMS for a long time though.

p.s. i wanted S02's. im going to try something new. the ES100 are squarish like
the S02's too. the fact that they have better grippage in the wet sold me. I have to be economical right now. Wet season is approaching too. It would have costed me $200.00 more for the S02's plus I drive through them faster. Yokohama makes alot of tires so they are easier to replace too.

If I were you I'd go up to a 225/50 in the front (but I hate understeer). I forgot to mention the Avon M500 before, they are a new tire that has received very good reviews especially for the price. The only possible drawback is they are asymetrical and can't be rotated. If it's too late, good luck with your yoko's and even more so with your rim fund.

BTW, Fine choice of color scheme on your car
