Default New Tires for the Track

Looking to make a decision on getting new tires for track days. Looking between RE71R, AD08R, ZII, or NT01. I currently have AD08 on my track wheels. I've enjoyed them but open to others. I have stock wheels with RE11A's for street driving.
I've seen all the reviews and know enough about their specs. Just wanted some thoughts/opinions from others before purchase.

RE-71Rs all the way...looking at the lateral G data they are pulling the same numbers as DOT slick R-comps. They don't last long, but damn they are sticky.

RE71Rs. No more questions. They have seem to set a new standard for extreme summer performance tires.

Im going to need to see that data and a bunch more, until then I take internet hearsay with a grain of salt. Just for another reference point, our 'beloved?' Tire Rack testing with the new line up shows that its lateral adhesion in the dry is #1 but only marginally between all the tires, with the Kuhmo v720 coming in a close second. We are talking 0.x amounts here. So if what your claimed data would be showing if true, is that ALL the extreme summers in the test are at equivalent levels to DOT racing slicks. I dont doubt the new Extremes continue to progress as tech gets better, but so should every other tire in their own performance category. Definitely not leap 2 entire higher performance category's of tires in one swoop. At best id say the new Extreme line up could be near competitive to the lessor/older R compounds such as the NT01 and maybe R888. But a non street legal DOT racing slick aka V710-A6/7?? Seems a real far stretch here. Does this really make any sense to you?

So these are track only tires, and HPDE only? If so I'd say just get whatever you like and that will last. Z2's tend to get a little greasy in the heat, although I heard the Z2 SS's fair better. Any reason you crossed the RS3's off the list? They seem to be a favorite and handle heat well (haven't used them personally). I'd definitely consider some R comps if they're track only tires.

I wouldn't bother with RE71R's unless you're running TT's or care about that last second or so. They seem to wear out quickly..

For the track I really like my RS3s better than the ZIIs I had. They never got greasy whereas the Star Specs did get greasy toward the end of the session. Granted, the sidewalls on the star specs were stiffer, but being nonstagger I really felt the RS3s were precise enough to nail apexes pretty consistently. RE-71Rs though are the best of both worlds and affordable too!

Yeah ive seen that thread. Until I see some widespread consistent data, rather then from one Amateurs G meter results, im taking his claims with a grain of salt. Extreme claims are going to take a lot more data from multiple sources before I start jumping on the internet bandwagon, and id recommend you do the same. Remember, based from extensive and consistent test data from Tire Rack, ALL the extreme summers would be offering very much the same performance results as the Racing slicks claim being made here. Not just the R71. Because all the Extreme are within spitting distance of one another in dry adhesion performance. Ive gathered from Tire Rack testing that the new line up has indeed established a next level benchmark in grip, however nothing that has said they have leaped 2 tire categories to a full racing slick equivalency.

71R's don't wear as quickly as everyone says. They wear faster than the Z2...but granite wears faster than the Z2. My old Z2's lost all their grip while they were still over half tread.

If you're going to be DD'ing the car and want a balance of wear and lap times, then the RS3's may be a better choice than the 71R.

AD08's were nice, but they're too much money for what they do.

71R's wear faster than the other tires on the market...but they're cheap...and they're not going to disappear overnight. The rain grip with 71R's is also crazy good. They're better than the AD08's...which I thought were very impressive in water.

Z2's are bit off pace from the rest of the group, and their water grip is awful in comparison.

Thanks for replying guys. I appreciate your experience and feedback on your tire preferences. I've run a handful of HPDE and AutoX sessions with AD08's. They do heat up well but get somewhat greasy on the last session of the day. I should mention that I still have a staggered setup with 8 inch wheels upfront on 235/40-17 and 255/40-17 on 9 inch wheels in the rear. Fairly aggressive camber on Swift R springs.

The AD08R's will probably have the best wear at 10/32. I do like their stiff sidewalls. I'm thinking of a different tire primarily to try something else. I like tires that not only grip well but have solid turn in response and feel. So many choices. Interesting to read everyone's experience on tires.
