For those of you running nitrogen in your tires. What is your opinion after running it for a while. Tell no diff. Better. Worse. Other.

I have Nitrogen in my tires now and can't really notice a difference. If you ask me, it is not worth paying $25 for it, luckily I got my fill for free when I got my tires mounted.

 

I have never run Nitrogen but for a street car I see little benefit. What % of air is Nitrogen to begen with?

It has a benefit for race cars with lower pressure buildup from heat, but tires need to be purged of air before being filled with Nitrogen for max benefit.

 

Wheel/tires combos from Tire Rack come filled with Nitrogen. I noticed less pressure loss over a few months.

Not a big deal, I check tire pressures all the time and have a compressor to top em up.

Not worth paying $$ for if you maintain our vehicle reasonably well.

 

Compressed air is 80% nitrogen, just sayin.......The only real benefit is the nitrogen has no contaminates such as water which could cause damage to the wheels!

 

On the race track Nitrogen has big benefits. We do a lot of hooked on driving events and we send guys out with regular air and then have them come in and we measure tire temp in 3 different spots outer side wall middle tread and inner sidewall then we purge and refill with nitrogen and send them back out. The difference in heat soak in the tire is greatly decreased just by changing to nitrogen. And for daily driving the benefits are minimal but there are a lot of minimal benefits 1.Improved has mileage 2.Loss of air pressure is decreased from 10-15 psi annually to 1-3 psi 3. Its an inert gas so there is no precipitation for cars with Tire Sensors. If anyone has any questions about it i am more then happy to answer it.. But to get the full benefits of nitrogen u have to have 95% nitrogen air in your tire.

 

I'm skeptical of any nitrogen claims on an off the track. Air, as we know, is 78% nitrogen. Changing the composition of the air within the tire does not change the Ideal Gas Law, pv=nrt, no matter if you have 80%, 90% or 100% nitrogen.

Straight from our beloved Honda in their 'Honda ServiceNews' monthly article:

"Nitrogen for automobile tires is produced by
nitrogen generators, which typically get about
95 percent purity. But to actually get that
level of purity into an automobile tire, you
would have to deflate and inflate that tire with
nitrogen several times. If you’re not careful
doing this repeated deflation and inflation
process, the purity level winds up being closer
to 90 percent (compared to the approximate
80 percent nitrogen already in compressed
air). Because of this, those claims of less
pressure loss with nitrogen aren’t valid."

 

Car came with nitrogen from the dealership. I didnt notice any difference except less pressure loss. I think I've only lost 3psi since last October. Gonna stop by Costco next weekend to refill for free.

 

Unless your car is a carpet queen, your tires won't last long enough to get any benefit from nitrogen.
