Old tires
Just after Christmas I was kind of fell into a deal on an old S2000. It's a 2000 model year, first titled in Feb, 1999 and it only has ~10,000 miles on it. The tires look like new, but I'm afraid they have age hardened. The first corner I negotiated on dry pavement in a somewhat spirited fashion led to the tail stepping out about 60 degrees farther than I expected. However, I've been driving a WRX for the last 3 years and suspect I may need to relearn rear-wheel-driving. BTW, the corner in question was an intersection going from 3 lanes to 5, so I estimate a 50-60 ft radius and speed was about 35.
So first question - am I within what should be the envelope for the car, and should therefore replace the tires?
Secondly - if the tires are age-hardened, could I enter an autocross and scrub off the hard layer instead of immediately replacing them?
TIAFYH

It may have just been colder temps. The performance tires will get hard during the cold and you will loose traction even if the roads are clear. I would say at 10K miles on the car the tires have to be close to the end on the rear of the car.
If I can help let me know.
