Powder coating my ASA wheels
I plan to have my ASA FR1's powder coated in the next couple of weeks. I've been quoted a price of $120 per wheel. I plan to have the spokes powder coated a gloss black about the same shade as the windshield trim. The polished lip will remain polished and the centercap will also remain silver. The powder coater is going to buff out the polished lip which has minor curb scuffs on two wheels, powder coat the spokes then clear coat the entire wheel including the polished lip. I think this is a decent price but I'm looking for some opinions. Is $120 per wheel a fair price or a bit steep. P.S. this powder coater comes highly recommended and I've seen some of his other work and he does a beautiful job. He also offered to powder coat the lugs so they'd disappear into the recess but I think I'll leave them silver.
Isn't that more than you paid for the wheels? I know he is throwing in some extra stuff but that is because he is already way over charging you. Here is a link to a site sponsor than offers this service to give you an idea of cost: http://www.teamspugen.com/product_info.php...&products_id=30
I believe I paid about $240 per wheel for the ASA's if my memory serves me correctly. I checked the Spugen site but couldn't find any details on their powder coating services. Shipping would obviously be a major concern. Then I have the added headache of my wheels being damaged in transit to or from the powder coater. Considering the fact that my powder coater is 15 minutes from my house and is also going to buff out the polished lip, I don't feel that his estimate is too far out of line.
