Default Price for Moving Tires from One Set of Wheels to Another

What is a fair (or expected) price for moving a set of tires from one set of wheels, to another (including balance on the new wheels)?

I was roughly quoted $150.00 today... I am in the SF Bay Area...so maybe there are geographic price differences... Please post your area if you know of a price in your local market...

Thanks!

Seems kind of high. That's $37.50 per wheel to dismount, remount and balance. I take it this is for wheels not on a car, right? But either way, it is basically the same work as mounting and balancing a new set of tires.

Now, you are not buying tires from them so you are going to pay a little more. Also, are they expensive wheels? Do you have TPMS to deal with? There is the cost of new valve stems maybe but no tire disposal costs. Then they will probably throw on a shop supplies charge but still, 150 seems a little high.

I wanna say I paid 80.00 for a set of wheels to have them done that sounds ridiculous in my opinion.

I've never had that done for 10/tire -- not for 40 series tires. Also, remember, he is not buying tires so it will be a bit more.

Depends on which area you live in and what type of a shop you take it to.

Expect to pay $100-$150 for dismount, mount and balance 4 tires.

That's absolutely ridiculous. I have access to a tire changer and change tires myself however here is what i paid before learning how to do it myself.

Prices are for each wheel.

$5 to mount tires onto bare wheels.

$5 to dismount tires.

$10 to dismount tires and remount other tires.

$10 each wheel for balancing.

$80 total to remove old tires, install new tires and balancing.

Only a few specialty tire shops tire shops near me will touch alloy wheels and 40-series tires in these widths. I forget the prices but a good shop is worth it. The place I use put the car back on the lift to straighten the center caps so the H pointed to the valve stem. Not sure if this if fluff or attention to detail, but the Jaguars, Porsches, and other high end cars in the shop were getting the same treatment.
