Default Problems with mounting tires

Just wanted to rant. I bought the rear tires (Yoko AVS ES100 245/45/16) from Tirerack and wanted to see if I could mount it at Costco. Well, I just came back from Costco and the tech there said that they will not mount the tires that I brought because the "standard" size in THEIR database was for the OEM S-02 tire size. They said it will mess up the speedometer...etc..blah blah blah. Anyway, I called one of the recommended Tirerack shops and I am taking the car there later on today. I thought I can use one of the benefits of being a Costco member, but no such luck. Anyway, thanks for reading!

That was an uninformed person working at a tire shop. The 245/45R16 is basically the same height and would not change the speedometer

I'd go back and talk to the manager. What business is it of theirs even if it does mess up the speedometer? You're a paying customer.

If their machine couldn't handle your rim, that would be another thing, but don't accept any bs about them doing you a favor by not mounting the tires.

actually, it's very much their business if it messes up the speedo. let's look at it from the other side...

if they mounted a tire that altered speed detection, and didn't inform you - how many of us would be pissed? now, everyone put down your hands...

seriously though -- after they informed you of this fact (which IS wrong), if you were ok w/ it, THEN they should go ahead and mount the tire as you desired... possibly making a note on your receipt stating you were informed about possible speedo errors.

The speedo on Fenry is fast and the speedo on Paco is slow, bith with 18" rims. Big deal! That's what they sell yellow boxes for.
