Default Proper tire size for 18x8 and 18x9 wheels

I plan on getting 18x8 front and 18x9 rear wheels for my S2K. The car is slightly lowered about an 1.5". The wheels I am getting have 48 mm Front, 50mm Rear offsets. So should I go with the 225/40 upfront and 255/35 rears, or other sizes? I wasn't sure if I should go with less width all around because the wheels were not 8.5 and 9.5. Thanks for any help

225/40, 255/35 would be my choice.

Does anyone have experience with 265 tires in the rear with this setup? (18x9 et50) rubbing? needed fender mods?

265 is a bit on the wide side for a 9" so considering your sidewall profile will be mushroomed a bit along with 5mm wider a side, your safe bet is to roll the fenders, you will be running very very close, to close to call. Id say go for it if your ok with that possibility. If you don’t want to roll the fenders(and assuming your running good camber -2.5 range) I know you can clear with a 255. So pick what’s more important to you. Honestly a 10" +50 and rolling your fenders would be the optimum for a 265.

i have 225/40 & 265/35 on my 18x8 & 18x9 +46 HREs. My coilovers are set pretty low w/almost no fender gap in front & slightly tucked in the rear. i had front & rear fenders rolled w/a rear tab relocate & shaved bumper edge. i scrape in the rear on big bumps and slightly on the passenger front during full lock on driveways.

oddly, it seems i have more clearance in the rear w/the 265 than i did w/my 255, but i'm running a different alignment and model tire. had Michelin Pilot Super Sports. currently have Bridgestone S0-4. i haven't really pushed the car too hard because i don't like the current alignment settings. i told the alignment guy to aim for decent tire wear, so he dialed out almost all the toe. car is very twitchy in the rear now. i need to have it realigned.
