Default Question about Tire Steel Belts....

I had my tires mounted on my rims today... I had a question/problem...

Heres my tire specs...

Front : 225/40/18's, 18x7.5
Rear : 245/35/18's, 18x8.5

When the shop mounted the tires, they mixed up the sizes. ex.) 225/40/18's on the 8.5 wheels, and the 245/35/18's on the 7.5 wheels. So they had to take the tires off again, and put them back on correctly.

A friend of mine said that taking low profile tires off damages the steel belts in them. Is this true?

no, not necessarily. the steel belts that are in the tread are not the same as the belts that are in the bead of the tire.

the bead of the tire is the lip around the tire that gets streached over and makes contact with the rim itself. that is the part that can tear easily IF the installer doesn't know what he's doing. it could be a simple mistake, but if it was ripped, then the tire was shot, and you would know it too, because it wouldn't hold air.
