Default Question on aftermarket rims

Hi guys, this is my first post but i have been browsing the forums for months. I have a 2001 s2000 and it has aftermarket rims on it. I have 17*8 ASA AR1 rims on the rear and 17*7 ASA AR1 rims on the front. The backs are wrapped in 225/45/17 Sumitomo HTR Z II tires. I would like to get wider tires and thus different, wider rims are necessary. I would like to get 17*9 TR Motorsport C3 rims for the rear and wrap them in 255/40/17 Hankook RS3's. Than, i would like to take my current rear rims and tires (the ASA AR1's and sumitomo HTR Z II's) and put them on the front. This would mean i would have two different sets of rims on my car (TR Motorsports on the back with RS3's and ASA's on the front with sumitomo's). Is this ok to do? Wil doing this affect my performance or the car in any way? I would like to do this becasue i will save money by not buying matching rims (TR does not even make 17*8 rims anyways). Should i buy the matching RS3's for the front or just wait until the sumitomo's wear out?

PS- I do not care about the looks because they will all be black rims and not look funny

Thanks,

Alex

You can sell your current wheels and put the money towards a matching set. TSW Nurburgring and Enkei PF01 come in friendly offsets and won't break the bank. You can also look into the RPF1 rims. Also welcome to s2ki. We have a wheel section and check out the search function. A lot of answers can be found there.

I don't think different rim will be your problem, but different tire compound will affect more. I know RS3 will suck when weather is cold like 50 and below. So you might get oversteer in the morning when rear tire is cold and then understeer when the tire warms up. The grip level of RS3 is very temperature dependent.

Ok so I should probably get an rs3 for each corner. How do you like rs3's? I probably will not be going to the track but how are they for aggressive street driving on the twisties?

It is never OK to run mis matched tires on a car. The RS3 would be fine for the aggressive street driving as long as the temps stay about 45 degrees. If I can help with anything let me know.

I guess i'll get four rs3's then. Will 225 tires on 17*8 wheels fit in the front without rubbing?
