Default 17.7" rims

I have some 17.7" rims for my civic that I got for free.. the front tires are all worn so I need new ones.. The current tires are 205/40zr17 80w.. I was wondering if I would be able to fit bigger tires onto my rims.. like 225/245/ect/ect.. ?

There is no such thing as a 17.7" rim. Since you have 205/40/17 tires on it, you have 17" rims. Or do you mean you have 17" X 7" rims?
So, are you asking if you can go wider in the front with those rims? If so, yes, you can go to a 225 of the appropriate aspect ratio, but then, what do you plan to do with the rear? If you put wider tires on the front, what do you have or plan to have on the rear? If you change on end and do nothing to the other, the balance of the car will be upset.
You also never mentioned the width of the rims on the back. Or are you running the same? A better question will get you a better answer.

wow, it's late.. Sorry I didn't make myself too clear..

Yeah the rims are 17 x 7... and If I were to replace the front tires to a bigger size, I would also replace the back ones.. Thanks for your help!

The car was designed to have staggered rims and staggered tires. This means that the front rims and tires are supposed to be narrower than the rears by design. If you alter this too much, the car's handling will be adversely affected.

By the way, what's the offset of the wheels? Nevermind, he's talking about what tires he can run on his civic.

I had 17 x 7's CE28's on my car for one week (to promote for my freinds shop) soon as the weekend was over I wanted them off. Car looked good, but like xviper said handling was compromised.... That is unless your planning to drift your S

Sorry, I overlooked that. For a 7" rim, I think you can go as wide as 235, maybe even 245. S2000 guys have been known to put 225 on their 6.5" front rims. You just have to make sure that the combination of rim offset and tire size won't cause you any problems. I have no idea what will work on a Civic.

Oops Sorry I guess I cant read today. I thought you were talking about that set up on a S

I had a slammed EK (1999 SI) and with 17's I could not run anything bigger than 205/40/17 and even this size destroyed my fender liner. By the time I sold the car I had worked my way down to 15" RNR's and had great fitment and no rubbing. Cornering was slowed a bit. My favorite set up was 16's good speed in corners and didn't feel sluggish out of the hole.

I say if you got them for free sell them and get some 16's

Isn't the Civic a 4 bolt configuration?
