Default Question concerning tire size

I am planning on trying out those kumho Ecsta 712 tires. I read the other thread about these tires and I saw couple of posts where they went with 245/45/16 ZR for the rear when the stock size was 225/50-16 WR. Now the rating WR & ZR is different as well as the size. I know that there is the stock size for kumho's but why did they go with a different size???? Would this change the handling characteristics in any way??? I need to order new tires really soon and I would like someone to help me out here...Thanks!!

The stock tires are marked 205/225 but measure out to more like a 195/245. So people are matching the tires they took off, size wise, by purchasing 205/245 (in reality their replacements are a little wider than stock both front and rear).
Nothing against your choice in replacements but you need to know they are not even close to the tires that came stock with the car, in any respect. Depending upon your intended use of the car and budget, nothing wrong as long as your decision to down-grade is an informed one

With these tires, I wouldn't sweat the speed ratings.

Thanks for the reply although I'm a little confused. So what you are saying is that going with 245 in the rear is not a good idea?? I do drive my car hard sometimes so I need a tire suited for this type of driving. I know that Kumho isnt the best choice but I just want to try them out....

if possible, I'd even recommend a 205/255 if going with non OEM tires.

I'm guessing you are thinking 255/45-16 ? That's starting to get a little too wide for a 7.5" wheel (245 is already pushing it), plus it's a weird a$$ size
