Default Question on Tire purchase

I notice that many people order the tires on TireRack.

Do most of you take them to a local shop to have them put on the rims then ? In the past I have purchased my tires from Discount but if I decided to get the tires elsewhere I assume I'd still have them installed there.

Then would discount still charge for balace, stem etc? Do others generally take them to discount or would the dealer be able to do the install for the similar price ?

For 17" wheels and tires its $9 to mount and $12 to balance at discount tire...thats the screen price...usually if you have a hook-up at a store they do it for like $50 or even free

I buy tires on-line for all my vehicles, all I do is load them up in my truck and haul them off to my local repair shop who happens to have the best Hunter tire mounting machine. For me it has always been a case of finding the right machine, and then finding a shop who knows how to use it. The Hunter machine that gets used on my wheels can match up the heavy portion of the tire to the light portion of the wheel, then when the balencing weights are added fewer are required.
