Default Re-01

Hey as ive purchases a lot of the close out tires.
Has anyone put the re-01 225 16 on the front rim of an ap1... Ussually they say 205 front and 225 rear for ap1 but would the 225 fit in the front so you run 225 all the way around..

I haven't done the non-stagger with the RE01Rs, but I will for my next street tire setup. I'm currently running 225/50/R16 Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs on all four wheels and they seem to fit just fine. There is a more pinch on the front, but that's what's going to happen with the narrower wheel.

I am running a Saner FSB on full stiff, which initially caused a lot of understeer but does a good job of keeping the inside rear tire planted during turns. So for my setup, the 225s in the front made the car more neutral and definitely reduced the understeer. If you're running stock suspension, you will be more prone to oversteer if you choose to go this route.

What alignment settings are you running?

Yeah, that sounds odd. My subframe is shifted and I have -1.3 on the driver side and -2.3 on the passenger side. I would also check to make sure your caster is maxed out. Changing the rear toe will also affect your tendency to over/understeer. General rule of thumb - toe in increases understeer, neutral to toe out will increase oversteer. With that said, I'd set your rear toe to between 1/4" to 3/16" total toe in and get the front end sorted out.

If you change your alignment, I think you'll get the handling characteristics you want.

in the rear i'd go 245/45/16(closer to stock size) even though the stock tire was stamped 225/50/16.

The 225/50/R16 auto-x street tire offerings (RE11s, Z1 * Specs, XS, RE01Rs, etc.) are better than what is available in the 245/45/R16 size. The 245/45/R16 Hankook Z212 is just about the only one you'd want to run, if looking for high performance and it probably won't be as good as the other brands in the 225 size. Actually, the 225 RE01R is nearly as wide as some of the 245 RE01Rs. Here's a pic that shows the stacked height of a few different tires -

Starting from left rear, going clockwise - 245/45/R18 Dunlop SP600s, 245/45/R18 RE01Rs, 225/50/R16s RE01Rs, and 225/50/R16 Hankook Z214 C70s. Only the Z214s are mounted. The RE01R in the 225 AP1 size is the same height at the 245 SP600 and only 1ish inch shorter than the 245 RE01Rs. The 225/50/R16 Z214s are much shorter.

OP, you'll be fine with 225 in the front - especially if your car understeers, right now.
