Default RE11A Not available

Running a set of 11a, the fronts have some life left, the rears are about gone. It's a weekend car, spirited driving, planning on doing some track time this summer. Is the 71R the obvious choice or is there something that would match the 11A better.

The 71R is a stickier tire than the RE-11A and the RE-11, which is the replacement for the RE-11A, is not as sticky as the RE-11A.

RE-11 still shows up in Ap1 sizing, though not RE-11A. But with the 71R being even less expensive I would think that is the way to go. I'm also running Re-11a, wish I could get some more of them.

255/40/17 out of stock as well... for like the past month. Hope they show up before auto-x season starts in a few weeks.

I have some 225 re-11a's if anyones interested.

RE-11 was in production before the RE-11A. The RE-11A was replaced with the RE-71R. The 71s will not last all that long on the street. They're a good track option though. A good combination use tire would be the Hankook R-S3s.

255/40-17 is the size I'm running on the rear, I still have enough tread for a few months, but will need to replace them before running the dragon this summer. Tire Rack doesn't show the 11a in that size, I assume they won't have it in the future. I know the 71R replaces the 11a, but I feel they lean more to the autox, track side than weekend thrill driving and cruising. IMO and as Fokker states the reviews of the 71R lack of life puts them in the autox, track tire driven to the event category, than the street tire occasionally on the track. With that being said the 71R on the rear may last until the 225/45-17 on the front let go. What about the Dunlop ZII, would they match up with the 11a?

The Z2 should roughly align grip wise with the RE-11A, but they do have different characteristics than the RE-11A. I feel the RE-11A give more feedback, especially audible feedback. You can search around the forums in the Speed and Competition section for more opinions on them and how they compare to other tires.

Are the RE-11A's an extreme performance tire? I just looked them up and they were listed as UHP.
