Default Recommendation on all season tires

Hey Jim or anyone else,

Its time for me to get a new set of wheels. I'm in Tacoma/Seattle area where it rains a lot. I was wondering if you guys can recommend me a good and decent priced tires. Thank you!

- Sung

Define good and decent. Those are both highly subjective words. Budget? What have you used in the past? What did you like or not like?

I also would need to know how you drive the car. Let me know and I can make a better recommendation.

Hey Jim, thanks for the response. I use my car mainly as a DD, but dont really drive much in general. Ill just need some tires that can handle rainy weather as well as dry weather. It rains most of the year here so handling in rain is quite important.

As for the price, nothing too fancy or expensive. I just need something to replace my tires that are basically bald.

If it's just RAINY weather, and not snow/ice/cold, you're better off gripwise on Summer tires than on all-seasons.

I still advocate the Toyo Proxes 4 if you have to have an all season. The sidewalls are a little softer, but I liked them. However about 1cm of snow will do you in.

An all-season tire that can't handle 1/2" of snow is utterly worthless.

It bears repeating: You don't need an all-season tire to handle RAIN. The best Summer tires are fantastic in the wet.

Only reason to compromise warm-weather grip by getting all-season tires is if you might need to drive in the snow/ice/cold. And in that case, getting all-seasons that suck in even light snow makes no sense at all.
