Default Recommended replacement tires

MY05 has 35,000 miles and Im still running on the OEM Potenza RE050 on the fronts and the rears i have some crappy Michelin tires. I've done a lot of research between both Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec and HTR Z III. Out of curiosity, I wanted to see everyones opinion on which tire they would preferrably go with. There's nearly only a $200 difference between both which isn't bad. Also from what I've read you should only go with the 255 on rear ONLY IF they are the OEM tires? Can someone clarify? Thanks!

It depends on what you want out of the tires. Those two tires are on different levels. If you want mileage/longevity at the cost of dry grip, get the HTR Z III. If you want dry grip (pretty good street track tire) at the cost of longevity, get the Z1 SS.

As for tire sizes, you can runn 225front/255rear on the stock rims. I track my car a decent amount (bone stock, except for pads/fluids, camber joints) on the stock 17" V2 rims with 225/255 RE-11s. A number of other competitors in stock class do the same sizes with the RS3s, which are even wider than RE-11s.

What noticeable difference do you feel with wider tires on the front and rear? Have you ever tried the CR fitment of 215F & 255R? Thanks for the feedback

Definitely the Star Spec. They will be much more responsive and provide way more grip. The Sumis will last longer and will provide a smoother/quieter ride.

I would recommend doing a 225/255 setup.

If you live in the Houston area, the local Firestone deallers have a buy 3 get one free sale all day today. I just bought some RE-11's in 215/45/17 and 255/40/17 for my 2004 AP2. They gave me 50% off a front tire and 50% off a rear tire for a total out the door of $800.46. That was a fair price out the door I figured, but I left the tires there until I'm ready to get them mounted. I still have some tread left on my RE-01R's.The total price included mounting, balancing and tax (8.25%).

Wow, that's a killer deal for some RE11s. Would love to get another set, but I'd be looking at $1k before mount and balance. Might stick to a cheaper set.
