Default Recommended tire pressure for 2002

This has probably been covered a thousand times before. Honda has 32psi front and rear on the plate inside the door.

I want to know what psi an expert recommends for the 2002 for street and autocross? My car is mostly stock. I ran my first autocross race yesterday and got differing opinions.

Thanks in advance.

How did you think the car ran at the Auto-X yesterday at 32? Depending on how you would like to alter the handling characterisitics, will determine how you alter the air pressure.

I like 30-32 for street driving.

The air pressure depends on the track, temp. and how you drive. It is going to be a matter of trial and error. The best way to figure out pressure is a heat pyrometer and check them as soon as you come off the track.

Well, I actually ran the tires at 37 pounds. The tires had 35 in them when I got to the track. The track is two hours from my home.

My problem is that I don't know enough about what to look for and am trying to beat the learning curve just a little.

Thanks for your response.

Jim,

What is a pyrometer and where can I obtain one?

It reads the temp. of the tire. You test in three areas across the tread. I would suggest trying the internet.

Jim

What do you look for? Even temperature across the tread? And based the findings with the pyrometer, how do you interpret that into pressure? If it's hotter in the middle and less on the sides you lower the pressure?

thanks for the help I've tried chaulk before never a pyrometer.

Jim,

I found this on the NET. Which one of these would you recommend?

Pyrometers

James - I was running 35 fronts and 32 rears at Saturday's school (I'd tried 37 fronts and 34 rears to start but didn't like the handling as much as when I let a couple of pounds out of each tire (felt great....for street tires, anyway)...I'm running Yoko AVS ES-100s and I think you're still on the S02s...right?)

Ruth,

That is correct. I believe David S. told me to add two pounds to both fronts and rears. I looked for his e-mail to me and have not found it.

I checked the pressure Saturday morning before the school and they were at 35psi. This is what Discount Tire put in these tires. They were purchased about a month or so ago.

I am just trying to get a handle on this so that I don't waist rubber and ruin tires trying to figure this out on my own.

Thanks for responding.
