Default Refresh ap1 wheels

I decided last week that I was going to order a set of re71s and run them on my ap1 wheels for my autoX setup.

im in the process of refreshing my wheels before I wrap them with some fresh rubber.

Went by the shop and stripped off the beat up Kelly tires that I trashed.

If you zoom in on the drums you can see the manufacturer date stamp.

Default Stripping

I had planned on media blasting the wheels to prep them for paint but my buddy Mike recommended using a product called aircraft stripper to dissolve the plastic like clear coating that is on the face of the rim. He said the media would have a hard time getting through it on its own.

Here you can see that product starting to work after only 10 min. It’s winter here in FL so it’s about 60 degrees out in the picture.

You can see the spidering that is happening under the coating.

From far the wheels didn’t look bad but they can certainly be better

More detail

Product is pretty effective

First time using it but so far I’d recommend it.

I should have a chance to get the rims prepd cleaned and painted this week and have these mounted up by the weekend. I’m eager to test them out!

Happy to come home to this

Spent another hr at the shop today, wheels are stripped down, I’ll sand them today and get them ready for paint. It’s raining today so I probably won’t get any color on them

Still wet from the rain but they came out pretty good

I kind of like the raw finish. Too bad they would look like crap after a few drives

not perfect but for around $50 and about 4hrs of time I’m happy with them

Not perfect but better than what they were before

I like the details like the wheel size, Enki, and Honda stamped on the backs

now to get the rubber wrapped on em

Probably will not fit. And they're not 2000-2003 S2000 wheel cap anyway. Different H. Search with Google with part No. 44732-S2A-A00.

Probably find them on Ebay -- they ain't cheap but you spent hours refinishing the wheels and put $1,000 worth of tires on the car. Why cheap out now?

Thabks Chuck, I’m going to paint them to match anyway so I’m not going to send the $$$ for mint caps.

if anyone has an extra set laying around shoot me a pm.

Default 90% done

Got them all mounted up with the help of my girls. I think they look great, better than the ap2 wheels. I’m going to go take them to my skid pad and get a feel for them.
