Default replacing tyres

Hi

i will probably get scalded for asking a basic question.
i have read this forum on tyres but its dated back to 2001 so things have moved on.

i have just bought a 2002 s2000 and i am bringing her back to former glory but the tyres are mismatched and at speeds, only 90mph you need to hold on for dear life, unstable
like a barge in a force 10 gale so my first step is replace the tyres then get the car balanced and tracked.

My question is I've read that the 225 stock tyres are really a 245 size so when i try to choose a rear tyre set i don't know what size to get, do i get a 225 or a 245 ??

the tyres i had in mind were 245 45 16 CONTINENTAL SPORTCONTACT for the backs, SO am I right in assuming I would have to buy a 245 45 16 tyre to replace the OEM tyres which are 225s ?????

If you have any other tyre sizes and brands please tell me.

Yes i am a noob and so were you once, i only bought the car a few days ago .

The roofs being replaced with a mohair one now, grooved discs and pads ordered so i need to plan which shoes to buy

any advice is welcome

regards Mark

Honestly tread compound is more important than the 245. If I'm were you I'm would look to get a good performance tire that is available in the 205/225 stagger like the Bridgestone Re-11.

The RE050A is probably a tad better than the S02.

I replaced all 4 tyres with these Falken ZE 914 , I looked at the reviews first then bought some, very good tyres, excellent in the wet, great in corners and has transformed the ride and handling
