If this test was to be meaningful, a neutral party would have to lighten and test the wheel. Yes, it certainly is possible to be too flex, but when is that really the case?

I'd be interested to find out who did the "special lightening".
If the lightweight wheel deformed enough to cause "scraping" and "alignment changes", I don't believe that wheel would last more than a handful of laps (or potholes) anyway!

Lightweight is important, but of course there are other considerations. The art is in designing wheels that are lightweight AND strong AND durable. Any wheel "lightened" enough to affect clearances and alignment isn't going to be durable.

If you have to choose between two wheels both meeting the same minimum TUV durability requirements, I think you could safely assume the lighter-weight one will give better overall performance.
