Rim Selection
i am going to buy rims soon but since I spent most of my budget on performance parts, I don't have too much money to do it. I checked the internet and I found rims with tires (18") for $850. The link for the rims is:
http://www.victoriatire.com/wheels.html?ca...odel%5D&size=17
since it is a cheap wheel, would it be a lot more heavy?? Compared to OZ Racing or RacingHart rims, how different would it be?? Would it slow down my car a lot??
BTW it comes with a tire called Nankang. Which tire would you suggest for a slightly modified NA S2000?? Maybe a Falken Azenis??

A lot of people on here spend more than $850 EACH for wheels/tires. Look around at all the recent accident threads and you'll quickly figure out tires are NOT something to skimp on. Get whatever rims you want, but don't skimp on rubber. I wouldn't advise going non-staggered either, likely to run into major oversteer problems.

My brother got Wheels/Tires for under $1000, they look/fit great and the weight was less than stock. Cant beat that:

At no point did I say more expensive was better. In fact I said get whatever rims you want, but don't skimp on rubber. Running all 4 rims and tires the same size is proven to cause major handling issues (they come staggered from the factory for a reason). I would pretty much bet that these wheels do NOT come with the correct offsets and the universal hubs (the ones with all the extra holes) are generally weaker than custom fitted ones.
As for your brother..I wasted my time reading that thread, and I wouldn't consider having to cut out my fender liner with a dremel to construe a 'fit great'.
Anyway, I was just trying to let batikan know that there were drawbacks to going with incorrectly sized wheels and Supercheap tires. Unless you'd like to argue that Nangkungs are as good as Bridgestones.. I'll be happy to dredge up some comparisons for you.
Cheers, Mike
Sorry i did misread your post, i thought you had said dont skimp on the wheels/tires. I do agree with you about the tires.
As far as my brotehrs wheels he actually never did end up dremeling the piece of the fender liner.....he thought it rubbed but it ended up being something else.

No harm no foul.. I just wanted to get across that it can be easy to screw up the handling characteristics of this car with poor tire and wheel choices. It can be easy to spend money and have something that is worse than stock.. I have seen a fair number of people who have gone 19" and even 18", come back and downsize back to 17".. and that's a seperate issue from simply running crappy tires which you DO NOT want to do under any circumstances, this car is VERY sensitive to choice of rubber.

Generally the lighter the better, because rotational mass is critical. You also need to make sure the offsets will fit the car, just because someone says it will fit does not mean it will fit WELL, and you might wind up with rubbing or alignment issues.. there's some info in the FAQ's section in this forum and the tire rack website has lots of good info as well.

ok, so i will get a good tire. but would getting a cheap rim make the car slower because it is heavier?? does it make too much difference with expensive rims??
