Default Rota Wheels vs. WORK

someone i know from autocross suggested Rota wheels, but they're not a brand i'm familiar with.

i spoke to the guy at Rota, they have a model 'D2' i was interested in. the 17" wheels won't fit but he says i can mount 18's and they'll fit.

he also said that it'll take 2 months but he can custom color the spokes at no additional cost.

the fronts are 18 X 8 with a 48mm offset.
the rears are 18 X 9 with a 50mm offset.

i'd like to run 225/40R18 and 255/35R18

has anyone had experience with these rims?

they look just like the WORK Meister S1s, which i'm not ruling out.

does anyone know what a set of these WORK wheels costs so i can weigh my options? i'm having trouble finding a site that has pricing.

thanks a lot.

I actually thought about not being a smart-ass on this one, but I CAN'T.

The phrase "Work vs Rota" should NEVER be written/spoken.

Work = Forged , JDM , 3 piece , light
Rota = Copy , cast , heavy

Get what you can afford. If you just care for looks and don't worry about JDM parts yada yada yada than go for the Rotas. If not pony up the cash and get the real deal.

yeah, yeah, i figured......

i just got a quote on a full set from a guy near me that does coustomizing.

he quoted me about $2,500 18 X 8 in front and 18 X 9.5 in the back, custom colored spokes to match my 'Rio Yellow' paint in the Meister 3 piece.

i'm also hypnotized by the VS-KFs as well.

does $2,500 sound reasonable? i have no idea what this stuff costs.

I believe the Work Meisters are priced at around $600 per wheel, I think, so $2500 sounds about right. I would buy a set of used ones off of a forum member here as those could be had for $1,500. Rota's are if you're on a budget and just want the look as they cost about $600 for the entire set. I'm running them now with the exact tire sizes you mentioned. All is good with me!

Just curious, didn't SSR make the wheel design first? (professor sp1)

Anyways, go with the Rota's if you want. Either will be perfectly fine imho.
