Default RPF1s or something else?

Hi everyone.

I recently bought an 1999 AP1. First thing i'm planning on doing is buying a new set of wheels. My first choice was the XD9s but they are a bit out of my budget so I am leaning more and more towards RPF1s. Most of the cars on this forum look amazing with all sorts of RPF1 set ups.

My problem is that in New Zealand they only sell silver and matt black, and matt black is only available in 9.5'' or 10.5'' width. I think it will be a mission trying to fit that width onto my s2000. I wanted bronze or gold but unfortunately they take anywhere between 8-12 weeks to get here.

Do you folks have any opinions of either ROTA or Vaarstoen wheels? These seem like 2nd tier after market wheels manufacturers from what I have read on the forum. Any positives or negatives from ROTA or Varrstoen owners would be a great help.

I have attached a picture of my s2000 and my Z to make this longish post more interesting. Looking forward to your suggestions/advice.

Adi

Only sold in 9.5 and 10.5? I assume those are 18's since they don't make those sizes in 17's. Rota and varrstoens are just reps. Varrstoens don't have s2k friendly offsets. Rota makes a very nice 17x9 17x10 setup for the s2000. Don't worry about color you can always change that. Worry about getting wheels that fit and find a place that rolls fenders since you will need them rolled.

Rotas I was talking about. Need a fender roll and tab relo.

Thanks for your response. Yes I have noticed that Vaarstoens don't have s2000 friendly offsets. Rota makes some really good looking wheels, but I am unsure about quality. Have you had any issues with yours?

Also a good point about not worrying about the colour. I can always get that changed later.

These are the sizing options for silver RPF1s available in NZ.

Silver comes in the following fitment:
18x8 +35
18x9 +35
18x9.5 +38
19x9.5 +15
18x10.5 +38
18x10.5 +15

I was thinking about a 1'' stagger and going with 18x8 and 18x9 +35.

I don't have Rota's but know plenty that have. They won't survive a serious impact but they are fine. Guys in the r&r forum are running the ones I linked at the track.

Are you dead set on 18's?

Not dead set on 18s. Would consider 17s as well. Unsure about how wide is too wide though.

It is a combo of offset and width. You can fit up to a 11.5 inch wide wheel as long as the offset is right and fenders are rolled. The wider you go the higher the offset must be for it to sit in a safe area. Play around on willtheyfit and you can have a better idea of how width and offset work.

As far as the RPF01s, they have 17x9.5 +38 and a 17x10+38.

I think any wheel with a +15 is not going to fit. +38 is pretty tough already without a stretched tire.

Correct. Both those are very aggressive for the s2000. Maybe ask in the NZ section and see if there is a better place to get the wheels or what other people run. It is much easier to fit something in the +40-50 range. Most people run the 17x9 +45 on here or a 17x8 +40something for the front and the 17x9+45 in the rear for rpf1's.

Thanks a lot for all the info!

I will try and find out if I can get wheels with specs suited for the car rather than go with lower offsets that may be difficult to fix. Will also find out if I can get +45 or higher offsets here in NZ for the RPF1s.

Will bump this thread with any new info I would like to run past you folks.

Cheers
