Same size front to back - safety
Has anyone ever run the same size front and rear tires? Supposedly this would make the car more crash prone, do folk's think this is true and how much risk would I be taking if I did go this route?
The car came with staggered tires for a reason and it's not only just for looks. The Corvette was one of the first mass produced cars to have staggered tires. To do what the designers wanted the car to do in terms of road course and autoX performance, the suspension had to be dialed in accordingly. This, however, made for some high speed instability. Using staggered wheels and tires took care of the h.s. instability while allowing the other characteristics to be kept. Other manufacturers of high performance cars followed suit.
Mind you most of this high speed twitchiness came at speeds well over 120. It has been said that the S2000 is quite stable up to its top speed. If you put the same tires front and back, are you willing to test this out?
