Default Stocks in the front aftermarket in the back

How come I see some people with thier Stock rims/tires on the front and aftermarket 17's or 18's on the back? Is this ok?

As long as the tires are properly sized, it will be okay (just ugly). It might handle poorly, but everything will "work".

Somebody's race prepped s2k had that setup, but it was stock REARS on the front (with hubs bored out to fit). The rears were ASA's.

I'm surprised the offsets of the OEM rears would work in the front. I would have expected them to rub somewhere.
