Storing Tires
i purchased two sets of fronts and need to store the second pair until i run through the first, which will probably be quite some time from now. is there a proper way to ensure they survive until i'm ready to use them or should i try to sell them?
It is generally accepted that modern tires have a maximum shelf life of approximately 5 years regardless of use. Should your storage plans exceed a significant portion of this shelf life, then I would suggest you sell the tires. If your storage plans are not longer than say 18 months the preferred storage is as follows:-
i) clean tires mounted on clean wheels:
ii) inflated about 5psi above normal running pressures(but never exceeding the
maximum pressure rating displayed on the sidewall);
iii)stacked horizontally in sealed bags and stored in an enviroment that does not
suffer any temperature extremes, nor humididty extremes;
iv) lastly do not store in an area that contains any running electric motors as
they produce ozone gas when running , and this is deadly to rubber items.
