Default Which of these two fitments for winter is better?

Option 1:
Toyo observe garit HT 93Q
front : 235/45/17
rear : 255/40/17

Option 2:
Blizzak ws-50
front : 245/45/17
rear : 245/45/17

I'm thinking 1 since front tire might be too large in option 2?

They'll be going on AP2 rim or 17" steelies

A couple of years ago I needed snows for a particular trip. Jim at Tire rack suggested going with taller narrower tires on 16" steels. Ended up with Dunlops. That decision basically on price for one trip. I'm sure you wouldn't go wrong on Blizzacks.

Of course this setup doesn't encourage spirited driving but normal handling driving is fine. I thought it might be a good setup for a daily driver were there were snow days but also dry days.

You might talk to Jim and see what he recommends for your particular requirements.

I would say that neither of the options you list are good. The wider the tire the worst the winter traction and the 245/45R17 is too tall.
You would be much better off with 205/55R16 and 225/50R16 for the best winter traction. If you go with 17" you would be better with 215/45R17 and 245/40R17 or 205/50R17 and 225/45R17.
If I can help let me know.
