Default Tire Break In.

Well, I just got a set of CE28N's with Bridgestone s-03's. I was wondering if there is a break in period for new tires. I'm asking because I took a corner last night at around 25 mph. I gave it a little gas when coming out of the corner and the rear slid out. Luckily, there were not any car cars around and I was able to recover. Aren't S-03's supposed to be pretty sticky??

There generally is a break in period. The 'oils' or chemicals on the surface having to do with manufacturing, molds, etc., might have to be worn off. Also, the beads might be quite as grippy on the rim for a bit. I bet your tires will have a lot more grip later than they do now; no worries.

I tend to gradually work up cornering and braking on new tires for a few days as I also get familiar with their tendencies.

The break in period can be as long as 500 to 1,000 miles. The thing you have to remember with your OE tires is you were breaking in your car and your tires at the same time. As soon as the car was broke in the tires were as well. You don't need to do anything special to the tires other than driving on them.

Is it bad to do an autox on new tires? Say after 100 miles?

Is this just surface garbage that needs to burn off?

you drive hard on them or just regular driving?

I don't want to overheat the rubber or something stupid. If i can just drive on them hard for a few hours and PRE break them in then ill do that.

dont drive them hard until broken in...
prob is that they harder until broken in- easier to lose control (although some like that- easier to drift!!)
after they are broken in they will be stickier.
straight lines and normal corners are no prob.

btw, just had mine aligned... what a diff!!!
strong recommendation to do that after giving new tires and wheels some time to set to the car.
