Tire-ed and confused
I appologize if this has been asked and answered, but this is my first post. My 2006 S2k is coming close to new tire time. Everything is stock, and I don't do any racing. But I do like to corner fast. I have had really good results from the factory REO50's, and I think I would like to stay with the Potenzas. Does anybody have an opinion on the REO1R or the REO70? How do these compare with the REO50 as far as road holding? Ride is not important.....tire wear is a little important. Price is no problem. Any advice would be greatly appreiciated. Thank you much. The RE-O1r's are generally considered about the best tire money can buy. Most people consider them clearly superior to the stock tires. That said, as indicated above the tire wear may not be a clear win.

Thank you all for your sound input on which tires to go with. It gives me some food for thought. I have a couple of months left on these tires, so I'll start sniffing around for prices. Have not decided yet, but your advice really helps.......Thanks again.

RE-01R in my opinion is better than stock. I too don't race my car, but love to corner fast. I had the RE-01R for about 2 months now with 2k miles on it and loving every single mile of it. I think it grip more, less noisy and hold the wet just as good as oem, it's not winter tire so I don't expect them to be GREAT in the wet (cmon now people there a reason why it's call ultra summer and not ultra winter) so don't fck around in the wet. I bought them from tirerack for 125 each front and 160 each rear, so that was a steal. It winter so it would be a good idea to add about 2-3 psi into ur tires and be cautious when driving.

Thanks Luckyaze for the info. Good to know. I live in California so rain is not a big factor. ( in fact I wish we would get more ) The RE-01R is certainly a great looking tire. But so is the RE-070 that's on the CR, but I don't see much mention of that particular tire. It does not seem to be very popular? Oh well.......Thanks again.

The reason you haven't seen much discussion about the RE070 is that until the CR, the tire came as OEM on the Subaru STi and was only available in that size (225/45 17).
I would echo the comments above. If you want the ultimate dry grip, and want to stay with Bridgestone, get the RE-01R. If brand isn't important, also consider the Yokohama Advan Neova and the Falken Azenis RT-615.
For slightly less dry grip, but perhaps better "overall" characteristics, go with the RE050A. Seems there is consensus that this is an upgrade to the plain RE050 that comes OEM on the car.
Keep in mind that any of the tires mentioned above will have a wider front tire in the factory size of 215/45. This is because the OEM front tire has a tread width comparable to a typical 195 or 205. Thus, many people will go to a 255/40 in the rear (rather than 245) to keep the F/R stagger about the same.
