Default Tire recommendations for AP2

It's about time for a new set of tires for my 2006 AP2. I have the stock 17x7 & 17x8.5 wheels and am looking for a good set of tires that combine good wet/dry handling and decent wear. I might just go with another set of the OEM Bridgestone Potenza RE-050's, but am wondering if there's a tire out there that has better handling with equal or better wear. I drive spiritedly at times, but don't auto-x. Predictability at limit is an important criterion.

And just to muddy the waters a bit, I might be tempted by an 18" wheel/tire set if I could find an affordable set that don't exceed the weight of the OEM's - prob 225/40-18 & 255/35-18? So far all the lightweight 18" wheels I've seen are too expensive/

Has anyone trhed the Continental ContiSportContact 3's? Opinions?

The Sumi HTR Z III's sound like a great value in a performance tire. I'm intrigued with the Conti CSC 3's for their good reviews & wear rating and light weight.

Hey, Jim, do you have performance ratings on these tires?

Anyone have a suggestion for affordable, lightweight 18" wheels for AP2's? ... or is that an oxymoron?

I tested the Conti's head to head against the Sumitomo HTRZ III and the Z III's were better in both wet and dry. All of that and they cost less as well. I would say for the money they are hard to beat.
If I can help let me know.

anyone have experience with the federal 595? very popular among drifters, and supposed great wet traction, despite the aggressive tread. i just made a thread regarding them...

Well the Sumi HTR Z III's sure sound like a good tire and a good value.

Wonder if anyone has had them on for significant miles and could comment on their handling and wear over time - and what wheel sizes you have them on.

Those Enkei RP-F1 wheels look good and sure are light for the sizes, but not what I call affordable.
