I removed my aftermarket coil overs this weekend and when pulling off the drivers rear tire i noticed serious wear in my tire. The other rear is fine. Details on the car dropped about 1" from stock. West end alignment with an agressive street setup (no further details sorry) Wheels are 18" le28's +52 offset tires are toyo t1r 255/40/18. I have never heard any rubbing and i looked in the wheel well finding nothing that seems to have hit the tire, the shape of the "gouge" is in a half pipe shape and i highly doubt it is from road contact because of the shape of the gouge. Any input would help. thanks.
edit: I am very cautious of my tire pressure and check on a weekly basis with a longacre gauge its always 28-30rears and 30-32 front. Im stumped because i see nothing for it to rub on. the tilted pic of it gives it more justice, its a huge groove in the tire that is deep enough to cover half your index finger. Im going to drive to a wheel shop tomorrow to let them check it out and see what they think.
If you really are running 255/45/18, that size is way too large. You are probably experiencing the effect of having way too much sidewall on your tire. If you are running 18s, most people run 255/35/18 or maybe 245/35/18, but you should never run 45 series tires on the rear with 18s. You need to pick up some more tires in appropriate sizes.
I don't know why the tire wore down like that. It is pretty strange. The only thing I could point to would be underinflation. Performance tires do some pretty crazy things when they are underinflated... That is odd.
It must be hitting here, it just dosent make sense because im not even that low, maybe 1" drop from stock. my tires are 255/35/18. The car was on jrz coil overs but i changed to stock suspension for now. has anyone else ever seen this problem on an s,??
