Tire size help!
I need help! I'm trying to decide between going with 245/40/17 all around, or 255/40/17. I'm also deciding between Dunlop Direzza ZIIs or Hankook RS3s.
I've picked up a set of Rays Gram Light 57xtremes for a square setup - All four wheels are 17x9 +40. My car is currently lowered ~.75" on KWv3s with rolled (flat) front/rear fenders and a slight pull up front. I'm hoping I can settle on a height a little lower after the new wheels are mounted. Here are some pics of how it currently sits:

I daily drive my car and will see about 7-8 track days in the year. Would going 255/40/17 require a ton more work than just going with a 245/40/17 setup?

Just went through a similar situation. it will depend on what type of tire you want as some run wider than others. simple example. I was looking between 245 and 255 for the Rivals and a 245 rival is just as wide (tread width) as a 255 s-drive.
Post up what models you were thinking and that should help a bit.
With that being said, your set up should allow for a pretty low car and not a major camber job on any 245 out there. the 255 will be dependent on the tire and how much camber you want.

Yea, someone helped me with this last week.
Check the sizes you want on tire rack and then check the specs. shows actual tire width. Should help you with your final answer.
Side note I have 17x9 +38 work emotion 11r's coming and i went with BFgoodrich gforce rival's in 245/40/17 because they are a bit boxier than the run of the mill tire. i expect the Zii'sand RS-3s to be similar.

Both of those tires run pretty wide. I believe when I looks the 255 Z2 has a a tread width of 10 inches so they run wider and I think the RS3 is similar. I would run 245 for the first set and see how much clearance there was and then maybe go to 255 if there was enough space but I suspect the front will look like there is no space and the rear will look like they have some depending on your camber.
