Default Tire Sizes

Why are the front tires 205 and the back tires 225, and has anyone put 225's on the front?

In short, smaller fronts help with responsiveness when steering, rears are bigger for increased grip as they are the drive wheels.

Best tires for what? There is no such thing as a best tire. There is only best for what you are looking for and how you drive.
