Smile Tirerack - False Advertising

For the last few months, I have seen specials on the Bridgestone RE050 Pole Positions (specifically the 225/45-17 & the 255/40-17) in both Car & Driver and Road & Track magazines. So I finally called tirerack to place an order and was told that prices have changed. Find it odd that they have had these special prices (highlighted in yellow) for the last several months and when you call, they give you a different price. In my book that is clearly false advertising...bordering on bait & switch.

As many customers as TireRack receives from this board, they should honor what they print

the specials run for periods of time...you can't expect to bring target an ad for a special they ran on q-tips last year for 2 weeks and expect them to give you the same price...same concept.

Check your sources before posting...I am talking about the April & May 2008 issues of Road & Track and Car & Driver....not specials from last year

yeah i see the magazine, but i still wouldn't count on them to be current. maybe the resource you should be checking is the website, not a once a month publication.

Dude, it's april and may 2008, if the op is correct. Regardless if they are accurate or not, it's tire rack's advertising campaign. If they're not on top of their own campaign, who should be? Certainly not the magazine. They print what you tell them to, within guidelines.

or...someone at TR forgot to make a change when they submitted the ad. i'm not saying it doesn't suck, just that the website would be where i personally would check for current pricing

Or maybe I should just check what their advertising campaign prints

Why not just post all tires at TireRack are $1 and have thousands of people call to order and then just tell them....price is subject to change and here is our new price...take it or leave it.

Even if 5% of the people take the "new" price...thats not a bad return on your advertising dollar.

I call it like I see it...and this reaks of

That doesn't really change anything I've said. Actually, that would just be an example of TR not being on top of their advertising campaign (for 2 months apparently).

It's good of you, or anyone, to check the website for accurate pricing, but I don't think it's a stretch by any means for someone to rely on a company's current print ad campaign, either.

Otherwise, I might as well start a company, publish ads for my products, and then say "whoops, sorry, all those prices are obsolete, please check my website for the higher, more accurate prices" and then continue publishing incorrect pricing in print.

They have always been great with me. 1 messed up order in 5 years on my commercial account, and staff are always friendly. Something else is going on.
