Default tires rims

Hi,Im new to this forum & also a new first time owner of a 2002 s2000.

I bought this car from the original owner, with the original tires (3675 miles)from Florida
This car is 100% original.Garage kept & never driven in rain, kept under cover since day one!

I drove this back to Toronto & added another 1500 plus miles, awesome machine!!!.

I brought this to my local Honda dealer yesterday & had the engine oil changed with full synthetic oil,
changed the transmission & differential oil with stock honda fluids.

The rear tires are worn at the inside & need to be replaced. The front tires are excellent.

My question- should I replace these with the original Bridgestone potenza s-02 225/50/r16 that are on this,
or should I change to a different tire? This car will be driven rarely, but somewhat hard(I'm in my mid 40's),
possible amatuer track days, but will be driving to the track, only in sunny weather.I do not need all season
tires, but would prefer sticky tires that have decent longevity.

Another option is to change the rims & tires - the car is yellow & I think black rims would look good- but what size
can I go to?

Thanks in advance

the s02's are decent (until they get to about the halfway point- then they become hydroplane happy) but for the money you could get a lot better tire. this will probably be moved to the tire and wheel section. I would recommend replacing them with dunlop star specs. if you still have the stock ap1 wheels (16") than I would recommend getting a set of 17" wheels (any of the ap2's or an aftermarket company). being new there are a couple things you need to know about the car and you will find out the more you are on the site- first off, call the dealership you took the car to and ask them what fluid they put in the differential. honda makes a differential fluid but it CAN NOT be used in the s2000. it causes severe premature wear of the diff components. most people run mobil 1 75-90w gear oil and i believe the manual calls for something similar. congrats on the purchase and I hope you enjoy it- they are amazing cars.

Thanks for the info,

According to the invoice from honda, they used genuine honda vtm-4 80/90 weight oil.Not sure if thats the right oil...?

Regarding the tires/rims,I found a set of 17" ap2 v2 rims,that I may buy & have them powder coated,or look around a little more
for aftermarket rims.

I will shop around for a set of the dunlop star specs.Should I go with the stock size on the ap2 rims or can I go larger without
causing any wheel rub or other issues?

Thanks again

that is the wrong fluid take it back immediately and tell them they need to run what the manual calls for. vtm-4 is the fluid for the diffs of the ridgeline. The fluid for the s2000 diff is one of the only fluids honda never labeled as a "honda" fluid.

you can up the sizes a little. the most common setup (for 17" wheels) is 225/45/17 in the front and 245/40/17 in the rear (I believe you can go 255/40 17 if you like) but if you go with starspecs and you would be fine with the 245/40/17 setup.

Hi,again

Thanks buddy for that info!

The manual says - use sae 90 viscosity hypoid gear oil,API service classified GL5 or GL6 only in the dif!!

I really aapreciate that.I will call the dealer in the morning & have that sorted out.

I figured going to the dealer, they would know this!,so my first lesson learned;relate to my service manual.!!

OK new thread - anybody in the Toronto area know of a top notch s2000 mechanic that would know about the ins & outs of

everything related to these cars!!!!.Obviously I cannot rely on my local dealer!!!

I normally am pretty good with cars,& have always done my own simple repairs & maintenance(brakes tune ups etc),but this
car is very special to me & with such low miles & in absolute mint original condition,I am pretty paranoid to even touch this!!!!

I really appreciate the knowledge that a site like this can provide, being a newby s2000 owner.

Again;Thank You & cheers!!

sorry i didnt add this, the s is like any honda for maintenance
very easy and you should do what you can cause trusting people to
touch your car is kinda a no no unless they know what there doing

but i always watch and even lend a helping hand to learn
and my machanic loves it when i help him out haha,

when hes busy he will just tell me what to do and not even touch the car.
and he just charges me for the parts and i get to use his tools for free
