I have Volk CE28N wheels that have been used exclusively for track work, and I've never used the ring adapters.
My girlfriend has LE28N wheels used exclusively for street driving, and have never used the ring adapters.
Neither of us have ever had an issue.

the fitment is not crucial unless you are worried about maybe wearing a tiny ring indentation into your rim from the smaller edge that holds the wheel to the car.. i don't think u should worry about any problems even if u track the car
My understanding is that neither the studs nor the hub rib support the wheel - it's the friction between the wheel back and hub face.
At least for me, with plenty of track/auto-x days on r-compound tires and no hub ring adapter, I haven't had a single lug failure.

So, the hub ring only help mount the tire properly. If you change wheels/tires frequently (as someone who tracks the car would) it seems reasonable to have these rings in place each time the tires are mounted. If the plastic pieces are no good after each track day, potential buyers should be WARNED that they have to part with their 20 bucks per change, since Jeff is selling them at that price.
The true cost of Volk wheels, then, is the price of wheels + 20*number of expected track days. Just be informed.
Alternatively, the vendor might supply hub rings that don't burn. Apparently, Volk went the other direction TAXING customers 20 bucks for each track day.
I don't think this all makes sense. At least it does not project a good image. I can't say I will get rid of the wheels due to this insanity, but I have to admit that I don't have any warm feelings at all either.

Well, from what I've learned the preferred choice would be to have aluminum rings that can withstand the heat track driving generates, but it is not ESSENTIAL to have these rings since they don't actually support the load of the car. So, since that is the case, I feel okay about this issue. It is more of an inconvenience than a real problem I guess you could say.
