Default Want to chrome stock AP1 wheels

I want to have my stock AP1 wheels chromed. They have some curb rash and the paint is dinged. Can anyone recommend a good place to have this done?

Prismatic makes a chrome powder coat. You would have better luck asking in your local forum about a local shop to chrome the wheels. It is something I have looked into before and there aren't many places that can handle this kind of thing and it is not cheap. The powder coat would be a much easier and cheaper way to do it.

I've heard that chroming aluminum wheels can cause damaging stress cracks to the aluminum. Yes, there are factory chromed wheels, perhaps they use special processes when the wheel is manufactured with chrome coating.

Have you looked into getting them polished? You could get a strong clear coat so they stay nice.

Hm not sure how the chrome process would hurt the wheels. Polishing is a good option though it could require more upkeep. You can powder coat clear over the polish which will help keep it looking good.

See your wheel shop. I passed as I turned my AP1 wheels into winter only but the wheel shop really wanted to rework them with a color powder coat to cover the interior spokes and the exterior machined smooth and polished and a clear power on top. Estimate $185 each.

Why dont you just pick up a set of CHROME ap1 wheels? i have a set that came stock with my car. You can sell your set and then pick up a oem set that is already chromed. plus it will be OEM!

Damaging corrosion caused by galvanic reaction between the different metals used. I understand that in Germany its illegal to chrome Aluminum rims, due to the danger that such corrosion could lead to rim failure. You'll fail the periodic inspections all cars there must pass. I suppose having highways with no speed limit results in paying more attention to such things.
