Default WedsSport vs Titan7

Hey guys,

I’m looking to upgrade from my OEM AP1 wheels and was looking for a set of affordable wheels in a square setup with clearance for a BBK in case I ever want one. Unfortunately Volks are more than I want to spend.

I’m tossing up between:

WedSport TC105X 17x9 +49
Titan7 T-R10 17x9.5 +51

The WedSport are a reliable Japanese brand and used in motor racing, but Titan7 are a new Chinese brand I haven’t heard much about.

However, they are being sold and supported by trusted S2K sponsors, and have the benefit of being forged and wider with a marginally higher offset.

Just wondering whether anyone had any experiences or opinions of one over the other? Or should I just get the one I can get a better price on?

Thanks!
Taz.

An important question is if your fenders are modified. Fitment will be similar for both and both will require fender roll front and back as well as approximately -3.0* camber front. Supposedly tires are a little faster with the slight stretch with 9.5 so that may be a consideration. If you want to autocross the car is most competitive in STR class which limits to 9 inch width.

I don’t think much needs to be said about Weds Sport as an industry veteran. I’ll also add that their SA72R wide spec is offered in 17x10+55 which should fit similar.

Titan7 has become rapidly popular due to offering more affordable forged wheels. They also have made some good will by offering very niche vehicle specific wheel setups. You’ll see a lot of amateur time attack cars running their wheels. At least from what I’ve heard through the grape vine Titan7 is a Chinese company but does have some input from JDM industry veterans; I’ve also heard the manufacturing is located somewhere in south east Asia. I’ve had two sets of Titan 7s now. The wheels are robust and I’ve never hand any problems with them. The main difference I’ve found with these wheels and say the very tippy top JDM brands is that QC and finish quality is slightly less. The JDM wheels I’ve seen are pristine but the T7s I’ve had have occasional blemishes like under spray of paint in certain areas or the occasional dust spot. This is only after going through my wheels with a fine tooth comb. You won’t notice it at the 5 foot test and all wheels will eventually accumulate rock chips.

^ what he said.

I'll add the following:

I would rule out the TC105X simply because it's the same price as the Titan 7, isn't forged, and is narrower.

Replace the TC105X with the SA72R instead. The SA72R is quite a bit cheaper than the TC105X.
SA72R comes in 17x9.5 +47 and 10 +55.
I would put the options between the SA72R versus the Titan 7.
  • Price
  • Weight
  • Forged vs. Cast (one of the stronger cast wheels - i've had some hard offs with no ill effects on the SA72R.)
  • Width (if you want 10" wide)

Buy whichever one you think looks better.

(if not for a track car)

Well both the TC105X and TR10 are similar being thin 10 spoke wheels. I think this style of wheel does suit the S2K well though. The TC105X is also available in 17x9.5+45. Though I've read that BBK fitment is actually not very good with this size due to the more concave spokes. Also the +45 offset would be harder to fit and probably require a fender pull.

I'm biased towards the TR10 as I own a set; I'll take the opportunity to whore my car around any chance I get, pics below. I also did compare the two wheels and I ended up liking the TR10 more because of the 9.5 width spec and the slightly more concave spokes it has. My previous set were also 9.5s so I didn't want to go back down to a 9 for more squished side walls.

That said I am considering the SA72R wide spec in 17x9.5+47 as my next set if I end up seriously tracking my car more and need more wheels.

for comparison - old picture of my car with the SA72R wide spec in 17x9.5 +47.

Titan 7 TR10 - $1980 ($495 ea)
SA72R - $1312 ($328 ea)
List prices at Evasive.

I love my wedsport TC105x- but do wish they had offered the titan spec with a higher offset for 9.5”, I’m on the 9”+49.

from a looks perspective I’m not a fan of the sa72 but the black is ok on some colors! No offense @Bullwings

Don't worry that Titan7 is a wheel made in China, they're one of the best quality wheels you can get out there. We, our customers, Titan7, and many others have thousands of hours on the track with these wheels with no issues. They're a huge name in the Motorsport industry now because of their quality for the price.

Let us know if you would like a quote for those wheels, we can ship them to you in AU!

@Taztiger79 Have you consider:

Enkei PF01SS Wheel - 17x9 / 5x114.3 / Offset +60 ? $285-310

It seems like homeboi has ghosted us. But for further reference, the PF01SS wheel has terrible BBK clearance due the added dished wheel lip. The regular PF01 has better BBK clearance. Regardless, +50 offset looks better than +60 if you're willing to modify your fenders.
