Default Wheel balance question

After having one of my front AP2 V1 wheels repaired from some curb rash I took it to Discount Tire for a balance before putting it back on the car.

I was inspecting the wheel and noticed they used a couple of stick on weights on the inside of the barrel, just inside of the face, as expected. But then I also noticed a clip on weight was also used in addition on the inner lip of the wheel.

Is it common to use both types of weights for a proper balance? I know the new balance machines are more sophisticated than in the past and can balance more accurately.

I haven’t had a chance to drive the car yet. But wanted to make sure this method of balancing is common practice and won’t cause any vibrations.

I apologize for my ignorance on the subject. Thanks for any input

Typically they will just use the stick on weights. Maybe it is so far out they felt they needed more weight right at the inner lip to get the dynamic balance right, but not sure. I tend to always have great luck with DT but I have had one newb issue with one location that failed to train the new person on directional tread tires Ended up with 4 tires for the right side of my car lol. They did fix it right away though.

Yes, 99.9% of the time, weights must to be added to inner and outer barrel areas in order to fully balance the tire/wheel.

A vast majority of wheels have a provision for clip on weights on the inner lip. So usually clip on weights are used on the inner lip.

Its totally normal and common.

However, if you want double sticky weights (sticky on the inner and outer flange), just ask. They will oblige.

Thanks for the clarification and easing my OCD

I just had new tires mounted and road force balanced. I noticed the same thing on one tire. I guess this is normal after reading this thread. Thanks for the information.
