If they are good quality there won't be any heartache.

Well, probably cause the S2000 stock rims are pretty decent quality and are already lightweight. Most knockoffs are heavy. This is why Enkei RPF1s are so popular, because they are decently strong and lightweight, for a decent cost.

I'm personally ok with knock-offs. My only concern with wheels is the weight and safety. Wheels are an integral part and granted all wheels could potentially fail, bend, break. Companies spend millions designing wheels so they can be safe and light and along comes brandx and decides to replicate it with no real R&D. I had Rota's on my old CRX and they were good wheels and cheap which was good for a broke student. A friend had some TE-37 on his Civic and I was blown away how much lighter they were. So it comes down to cost/performance/preference. Some people will never spend $2K on wheels. To each his own.

I don't understand this eather .. people get replicas all the time with replica hardtops, bumpers etc. but when it comes down to wheels some people just love to hate on them..

I agree with the "safety" component aspect...when it comes to brakes, suspension, and wheels, I'd rather have nothing fail

I personally dont think structure is ever really an issue. Most wheels are rated for loads 2-300% higher than they'll see on an s2k, they have to fit sedans with 800-1000lbs of passengers + luggage.

IMO its finish quality and rim weight. Its hard to find cheap knock offs that are actually lighter than stock. You pay a but load for Volks because they're light weight forged wheels, they feel like feathers when you lift them without tires. Cheap wheels are cast and have to use more material to compensate for the inherit weakness of cast alum.

You just contradicted yourself and explained why structure is an important characteristic concerning the difference between authentic/expensive and knock-off wheels. I, myself, own a set of replica wheels made by JLB motorsports. The quality is definitely there, but the weight of the wheels are inferior to authentic Work Miester S1s. Sure, most, if not all wheels are able to support the modern automobile, but you'll definitely find the difference between cheap wheels and expensive wheels that have been involved in a low speed collision where the wheels have received some impact.

Everyone has seen these Rotas floating around the internet...
