Why S2000 AP1 Front Wheels weight so much?

As the tittle says...

Was replacing my AP1 stock wheels for the AP2v2 and just by lifting the wheels to put them on a storage noticed that the front wheel/tires weight a lot more than the rear ones.

I know that the rear should weight more, but didn’t feel like that.
Maybe the tire???
I don’t think the balancing weights (2-3 oz) makes a difference.

All four original Honda/Enkei wheels with Michellin PS A/S 3+.

Wheels weight according to other post:

Feel is not a unit of measurement that is known to be very accurate :tipwink:
Unless you put the wheels on a scale and checked the actual weight I doubt the fronts are heavier.
Did you maybe put up the front wheels last and was just a bit more fatigue?
What was the tire dimensions?

On a scale, one of my front AP1 wheels weighed 35.4 lbs, the rear 37 lbs, both measurements with OEM size tires mounted.

Feel is often influenced greatly by appearance. Lift something big, you're expecting it to be heavy, so it feels very light if its less than your brain calculated to expect. Opposite for something small tbat is heavier than brain expected.

Your brain saw the smaller wheel/tire, and expected it to weigh much less than rear. But as stated in previous post, the weights are very close. Too close to really notice if you just lift one, then the orher. So brain expecting one thing, reality is much different, brain makes incorrect conclusion.

Its like when you brake hard on glare ice, and it feels like car actually goes faster. Brain doesn't get expected result, and this skews perception.

Yes or maybe I was tired of lifting the two rear first and being all night washing the car after a day of work.

My Dachshund's weight doubles when she falls asleep on my lap.

If you're concerned about weight, you shouldn't have gotten the AP2v2's. The full table should be:

Honda s2000 Cast--16x6.5--17.5---7.9
Honda s2000 Cast--16x7.5--18.6---8.4
Honda s2000 JDM (BBS)Forged--16x6.5--13.3---6.0
Honda s2000 JDM (BBS)Forged--16x7.5--14.3---6.5
Honda s2000 (04-05) Cast--17x7--17.6---8.0
Honda s2000 (04-05) Cast--17x8.5--20.5---9.3
Honda s2000 (06-07) Cast--17x7--20.5---9.3
Honda s2000 (06-07) Cast--17x8.5--22.0---10.0
Honda s2000 (08-09) Cast--17x7--19.5---8.9
Honda s2000 (08-09) Cast--17x8.5--21.5---9.8

So a set of AP2v2's is a total of ~8lbs heavier than a set of AP2v1's.

Tks!
Not concerned about weight...

I'm concerned about weight.

Is there a final weight of the wheels on an ap2 and an ap1?

Chuck S 12-17-2022 01:44 PM

I believe the weights posted above are accurate. The AP2 wheels are heavier than the AP1 wheels -- 'cuz they're bigger. No free lunch. :)

The AP2V2 wheels on my 2006 are heaviest of all.

Why are you concerned about wheel weight, its PII for most of us?
