Default Winter Tire Recommendation

Drove my S in the snow/ice for the first time today - yikes! I know there are a number threads about winter driving and winter tires but many were from a while back. Anyone recently purchased winter tires and have any recommendations?

You should go to the forum dedicated to that.

Many of us don't drive our cars in the winter, though.

What year is your S2000? And what type of tires are currently on it? It may have summer-only tires. Stock wheels? More info helps.

As far as snow tires go, I would buy the skinniest size that the wheels will take in a Bridgestone WS80. They're the best snow tire I've tried to date. I don't drive my S2000 in winter...but my girlfriend and I do have daily drivers with snow tires.

My recommendation is to buy a spare set of AP1 wheels on craigslist or something. Use 205/55/16 as your size in that case. Make sure you're either getting 4 front wheels or 2 fronts/2 rears. And make sure they go to the correct hubs when installed. Lots of places screw this up. Makes for a very wobbly drive and/or broken studs.

Thanks for the info! It's an '06 with factory rims and Bridgestone Potenza tires. Here's a local Craigslist ad for rims and winter tires. Says it will fit S2000...

Can anyone confirm they will fit ok? If so, are they priced right?

Ive been on stock sized blizzaks through 4 winters in NJ without a problem. I have a beater suv for terrible weather but still swap to winter tires on the S just incase we get some unexpected snow storm while im in the s2k at work or elsewhere

Configure it at Tire Rack. I've used Dunlops for the last 7 years on 16" Sport rims. Need them for the cold. I drive all winter but I try not to use the S in snow or when there's a ton of salt on the road.

Lol no...those are for a Honda Pilot.

Your current tires are probably summer tires. Keep them for use after march/april/may when the snow melts for good.

You can buy snow tires for the stock wheels. But you'll have to get them swapped every season. With extra wheels, you can just bolt the seasonal set on or have it bolted on.

I would go 235/45-17 all around on my '06 if I drove it in snow and very cold temps.
I like this tire for winter tires
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes
If your S is stock the 235/45-17 will fit up front and not rub on anything. I run 235/45-17 DW and 245/45-17 DW on my '06 and have for over 80k miles.

A 235/60-16 tire will be to tall I think. That tire should be around 27" tall and I just don't think it would fit without rubbing.

Skinny tires work better than wide ones. For stock AP2 wheels, 225/45/17 is very close to stock diameter, will work on front and rear wheels, and is skinnier than the stock drive wheels.

Plus, 225/45/17 seems to be a very cost effective size.

This is my first year driving my S2000 in the winter.

I bought Toyo Garit KX tires paired with a second set of AP1 rims I found on the classifieds.

Car feels confident in snow and ice. Haven't ran into any ground clearance issues since it hasn't snowed excessively where I live (knock on wood).
