Default Work CR Kai powder coating question

I just got off the phone with the shop that is doing my engine work, and they told me that the shop that they use for powder coating wheels was worried about powder coating the wheels white because it may have a yellowish tint or glaze from the heating process. Does anyone have any picks, suggestions, paint codes, or any help for me at all?

I have a set of gunmetal Cr Kai's, and I have a GPW, I want to do white on white, but not if the end result will be white on cream

I have searched these forums, and used google, but no one seems to raise this issue, and all of the ap1 and ap2 wheels that I have seen powder coated white on the forums and the internet, all look pretty good to me. Also, will the powder coating process weaken work wheels, or just stock wheels?

That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Powder coat is designed to reach a temperature, cure, and finish the color the powder is designed to be. It would only ever yellow if you heated it up far beyond the cure temp to 600-700deg or if the substrait was contaminated.

Heat cycling any wheel will weaken it to a degree. Make sure the shop has the wheel in the oven for the lowest amount of time possible at the lowest temperature possible.

Thanks for the heads up. Any recommendations on which white to choose. I want to go with taffeta white because it was a bit "whiter" than the GPW.

If temps remain below 325F for cast, 350F forged, no permanent loss of strength will occur. At temps above that, there will be some degradation depending on time of exposure.

If the powdercoating shop is worried about the heat they use yellowing the white powdercoat, I wonder what temps they're planning on taking the wheels to...

My thoughts exactly, Id be worried about trusting my expensive rims to a shop with such little basic knowledge...

FYI, you can get white powders that cure below 350 as well, so that may be something you want to look into if you want to preserver the integrity of the rims.

Call some other shops maybe?!

As for the white, Dupont offers a sky white part number PLW611S9 that will cure at 325. Something to look into.

I know I can get a 5lb bag of this stuff for about $50 and it will do 3-4 sets of rims.
