We were just wondering why would you go narrower instead of oem spec or wider
In this case it's probably the best choice if he wants to avoid fender work which could be the deciding factor. 8" is perfectly fine for a 245 rear tire since he is sticking with stock size. I believe the 9" starts to concave though which would be my choice.

You could also do 8" +47 front and 9" +44 rear with stock tires. Even though the wheels would stick out further than the 7/8 setup, the tires would be more stretched and have about the same fender clearance.
Work has cut back what sizes they offer this wheel in quite a bit. Looking at their web site they don't even offer the 17x9 +44 anymore. There are other sizes of this wheel available but you will be looking for a used set or an older set of them which can take some time. Personally I would not go narrower than stock even with the same size tire because not only will you loose some of the stiffness of the sidewall (probably not enough to notice but still) but mainly because it will look odd. Nothing looks more wrong to me than seeing the back of a sports car with narrow wheels and yes 8 inch wide is narrow.

Now the 17x9 +38 is doable with a 245 but you will have to roll your fenders and run 2.5-3 degrees of camber for the to fit but it is possible. You didn't say if you are against rolling the fenders or not.

I want to keep the car looks as stock as possible. So i am not considering rolling the fenders, or altering the camber settings. I will also look for 17x8.5 wheels (from other makers) but in regards to this specific wheel my only option for the rear is 17x8.

Thank you all for your comments!!
