hmm its weird though because some websites that carry the rim and have searches for "will this rim fit" say the rim will fit with a 45mm offset...

I'm running 44mm offset on 7" rims all around for winter tires only. The 205 fronts on mine are just outside the fender line and my 225 back ones are just at the fender line. You are planning to run 7.5 and 225 on the front, so they'll stick out another 1/2 to 3/4" further than mine. On the back, you are running 245, so they'll be out about a 1/2" further than mine. On mine, the tires already fling out crap from the road way more than the stock wheels/tires do. If you can live with this, then go ahead. It's down to personal choice.
A 17x7.5 +45 front is just fine. You will not rub if you run a 215/45/17 tire for daily driving.
17x8.5 +45 will work as well. You will be fine. Run a 235/40/17 tire.
FYI you can go as low as a +38 on a 17x8 and +42-47 on a 17x8.5. Again this is if your running a 235/40 rear tire.
Some members will disagree but I have had similar and same setups and have been running them for 4 years and have had no problems with daily driving and mountainside runs.
Just look at the pic in my sig. Its a +38 front with a 215/45/17 on a 17x7.5 wheel. No rubbing what so ever and camber is very near OEM specs. The rears however are not at OEM spec. This is with and without OEM front fenders.

I think we're having 2 different conversations here. At least I have never said anything about them NOT fitting or rubbing. I'm only saying they will stick out much more than stock. If he's OK with this, then he should go ahead.
