Default Yokohama s.drives

despite my objections, one of my buddies is getting new yokohama s.drives. How can I convince him to get a good tire?

Explain to him tires are generally tested in tires of the same class. So while Yokahama S drives perform well when compared to other Ultra High Performance Summer tires, like the Dunlop Direzza Z101s, there are two better classes of tires above that. Max Performance Summer tires, and Extreme Performance Summer tires. Yokahama S drives don't perform well enough to even be considered in the same class of tires like the Dunlop Z1 Star Specs.

Good
Ultra High Performance Summer tires

Better
Max Performance Summer tires

Best
Extreme Performance Summer tires

You can get much better tires at the same kind of price point. The S Drives are not a bad tire but a tire like the Hankook V12 would handle better for less money. If I can help let me know.

One of mine(rear) blew out 2 weeks ago with 3000 miles on it, 4 and 1/2 months old no reason at all. Driving over a 7 mile bridge, nothing hit in the road. I check the tire pressures every 2 weeks and had checked the 2 days before the sidewall blew out on me at 70MPH. The tire pressure on all 4 was 31PSI when I checked them.

Im a big fan of the hankooks, maybe I can convince him to try them.

Re760 Sports would be a wayy better tire than a S-Drive... Imho Directional tires are waste of time and money.. Asy's can be rotated side to side... Only directional tire i would ever purchase would be a NT-05 or maybe an Ad08

Yea you can rotate side to side but that doesn't help uneven tire wear such as the inside wearing out faster, whereas directional tires can be dismounted, and remounted the other way to reverse this. Plus, the Hankook RS3 is faster than the NT05 or AD08, and cheaper.

but back on topic, in that tire class I like the RE760, Continental DW, and Michelin PSS, with my personal preference being the DW for price, rain performance, and ride, while still being good in the dry.

He paid over 600 for them today, instead of under 400 for the hankookw. I hate to see money wasted,
