For you tire guru's...
hey just a quick question for the tire guys. i picked up a set of wheels w/ tires and dont have the lug nuts yet so i thought why not set them next to the car to see what they'd look like? well the rears are ~1" bigger in diameter than the stockers. i thought the whole idea was if you go up a wheel size you go lower profile tires to keep the same overall diameter? the stocks i have on the rear now are 225/50R16 and the tires on my "new" set of wheels are 245/45ZR17. the front stocks are 205/55R16 and on my "new" wheels they are 225/45ZR17. I looked up the wheels on tirerack and the tire sizes they say are needed are F: 205/50ZR17 and R:225/45ZR17. I'm guessing i'm going to possibly be tire shopping if i dont want the odometer and speedo off much? Thanx for the help guys!
Stock AP2 sizes are your best bet (215/45-17 F, 245/40-17 R).
The rear tires you have are ~3% larger-diameter than stock. May rub, maybe not depending on offset, but for optimum ABS function and proper ride height/gearing, etc., it's better to aim for closer-to-stock diameter.
The 225/45-17 fronts you have may work fine, depending on offset.
What are your offsets? Have you looked at the wheel fitment guide above?

Those 225/45 fronts you have *might* rub, but with some negative camber you'll probably be OK. For your rears, the concern is that they may be too tall, and may rub despite the rim being in the "correct" offset range for a 245 width tire. Again, negative camber will help.
From the stickie above^^^
For the front:
205 tires: +43 offset minimum (6.5

yea i looked through the stickie, but i was just asking bc the tires were already on the wheel, so not much i can do 'cept diff tires. how come tire rack suggests different size tires than AP2 OEM?
and another question...
why does tire rack recommend different tire sizes for different years for the same wheel?
2005 17" wheel
Front: 215/45-17
Rear:245/40-17
2000 17" wheel
Front:205/50-17
Rear:225/45-17

so another question. how come stock ap2 tire sizes are my best bet. im not questioning your statement, i honestly dont know much about tire sizes so just looking to learn a little, why not go for the tire rack recommended size for MY '00?
The sizes we mention are based off the AP1 car. If you have 17" on an AP1 I would recommend either 215/45R17 or 225/45R17 front and 245/40R17 or 255/40R17 rear. The sizes depend on what the width and offset of the wheels are
